It often happens that users upload files and then cannot find the file on the SURFdrive web client. When the desktop client's log is then looked at, it is discovered that the client has ignored the files. Here is how this is displayed in the desktop client.

The message "File is listed on the ignore list" indicates that the file in question will not be synchronized. SURFdrive maintains an ignore list of characters in file names. As soon as file names start with characters from this list, the client will not sync the file:

Solution:
This message is common for files starting with '~$'. These characters indicate that the file is currently being edited and is therefore open. SURFdrive does not upload files that may be edited, which is why '~$' is also on the ignore list. This case is easily resolved by re-uploading the file after closing the file. You can check this by checking that the filename does not start with '~$'.

When you want to synchronise files that SURFdrive by default doesn't synchronize, you are able to do so. Look out though, since synchronising these files might lead to instability. Go to the place where the SURFdrive-app is installed on your system. (In Windows this is by default 'C:\\Program Files (x86)\SURFdrive' and on Mac it is '/Users/***username***/Applications/SURFdrive'. Here you find the file 'sync-exclude.lst'. You can open this file with a simple text editor like NotePad or TextEdit. On every line there is a pattern that SURFdrive ignores. You can delete patterns and save the file. Be aware, for adding patterns the preferred method is via the Desktop client as described above.
