To find out exactly what goes wrong, we sometimes need a client log. The ICT helpdesk of your own institution will help you with this. Below you can read how you can possibly create this log yourself.
Start SURFdrive once with log functionality
Windows
- Make sure the application is off! Check the systray and, if necessary, close SURFdrive.
- Click on start / the Windows logo (in Windows 8, with the right mouse button), and then on 'Run'.
- Enter 'cmd' and press enter/OK.
- In the 'black screen', enter: cd\
- Then: cd Program Files\surfdrive (or, on a 64-bit machine, cd Program Files (x86)\surfdrive)
- Then enter: surfdrive.exe --logfile C:\Users\<username>\Desktop\surfdrive.log (Attention: replace <username> with the user's Windows username!)
- The log file is then kept on the Desktop; the file is called surfdrive.log.
Optionally, with Windows, you can also go to Settings in a running client and then press F12. Then a log window opens. Then the user can perform the tasks that are causing problems. Finally, the contents of this log window can be copied to an empty txt file.
Mac OS X
- Make sure the application is off! Check the systray and, if necessary, close SURFdrive.
- Open the 'Terminal' application.
- In Terminal, enter: cd /Applications/surfdrive.app/Contents/MacOS/
- Then enter: ./surfdrive --logfile ~/Desktop/surfdrive.log
- The desktop client starts and keeps the log file on the desktop. The file is called surfdrive.log.
Note!
If you experience certain problems with SURFdrive, the ICT help desk of your own institution is the first point of contact. In most cases they can solve the problems for you. However, it may be the case that the IT help desk of your institution cannot find a solution. They will then contact us.
