If you already have an eduID account, you can fill out the email address that you registered with and click on "Next".

Step 3: Fill out your name and email address you would like to use to create your eduID account. For example:

Your eduID account will now be created.

Step 4: Install the eduID app to setup MFA

eduID automatically has multi factor authorization (MFA) build-in to their service. This is in the form of sending a magic link to the email address you used to create your eduID account. By clicking this link, you will be able to access Research Drive in your internet browser. However, to speed up logging in, you can download the eduID app on your phone. After the app is installed, log in to the app with your eduID email credentials. If you then try to login to a service with your eduID account in the browser, like Research Drive, fill out your email address and scan the QR code with your eduID app on your phone.

2. Known issues with creating an eduID guest account

eduID troubleshooting
Below you will find an overview of known issues with using eduID to login to Research Drive.

2.1 You do not have an eduID account yet

If you see the warning from the image below, it means you do not have an active eduID account yet with this email address. To verify if this is indeed the case, try logging in https://mijn.eduid.nl. If the same message pops up, it means you first have to create an eduID account before you can create a Research Drive account. To do so press "Create a new eduID account" and follow the steps. Now you should be able to create a Research Drive account using your newly created eduID account. To do so, go back to step one in the page on How to create a Research Drive account

2.2 Login unsuccessful

If you see the message from below, this means that you are trying to login to Research Drive with an eduID account that is unknown to Research Drive.

There are two situations in which this can occur.

  1. The first case is when a user created an eduID account and then tries to immediately login to their Research Drive environment. In this case, the steps to create a Research Drive account were not completed, so the eduID account is not yet linked to the Research Drive account. In this case, the Research Drive account is not yet active, hence the "Login unsuccesful" error. In this case, go back to your original Research Drive account invitation email and use to link and follow the steps to activate your account. See this page for detailed instructions.
  2. This situation can also occur when you created an eduID account and used this account to create a Research Drive account, but for some reason you had to remove your eduID account and created a new eduID account with the same email address as used before. Although you are using the same email address, the IdP username has now changed. When you then try to login to Research Drive with this new eduID account, Research Drive receives an IdP username attribute that does not match to what is known by Research Drive.

To solve this issue, you can check the following:

    1. Download your eduID user information. To do this, visit the page https://mijn.eduid.nl and navigate to "Account" and to "Download my data".
    2. Find the string "uid" (this is your IdP username) and copy this string.
    3. Contact your own IT department and ask them to check if this "uid" attribute matches the IdP username that can be found in your account. If these do not match, the Research Drive admin of your institute can send a reconnect account request. For more information for admins on how to generate this request, visit this page. For more information on the steps you need to follow when you receive a "reconnect account request", follow instructions on this page.

2.3 Enrollment failed error in eduID app

Sometimes it can happen that the connection between the app and the eduID account is accidentally removed. If you then setup a new connection, before removing the old 2FA security key in the app, it can happen that you cannot login to Research Drive because the old key is still registered in the eduID app. In this case you will receive an enrollment failed message:

To solve this you need to go to Security > Security key > Select your old key > Delete key:

After following these steps, your eduID should be able to connect your eduID account to the eduID app again. Open the expand button below to view the steps on how to connect your eduID account to your eduID app again.

  1. Navigate to https://mijn.eduid.nl > Security > and Select the option to "Get the eduID app" and press "Get it now".
  2.  As you already have the app installed, select 'next' on the webpage.
  3. The webpage will show a QR code. Scan this code with the eduID app. Make sure to enable camera use for the eduID app. If this feature is disabled, please refer to the "app permissions" settings in your mobile device and enable camera use there.
  4. The app will then ask you to select a pincode. Optionally, you can add biometric approval if this is possible for your mobile device.
  5. To finish linking the app to you existing account, you will be redirected to the website. Continue there.
