Research Drive is offered in two different varieties:

  • Community instance
Here you share the Research Drive service with other users from other organizations
  • Your own branded instance
Here you can have your own private Research Drive instance with the branding of your own organization.
If you want access to a branded instance please contact your institutes ICT department.
To check if your institution has a Research Drive instance, you can check this page.

If your institute is not listed or if you are an independent researcher, there are two ways to get access to the Research Drive Community Instance:

  1. If you are planning to make use of compute services at SURF (such as Research Cloud, Lisa or Snellius) and like to add cloud storage to this project, you can apply for Research Drive community via a NWO klein grant. This grant allows you to use SURF compute services in combination with Cloud storage on Research Drive. You will have access to Research Drive for 1 year and up to a maximum of 5 TB.
One condition for requesting an NWO klein is that you work at an institute that does not have a branded Research Drive instance yet. For the pilot grants, you need to fill out a small compute application (NWO) form.
We will assess your request and will let you know about the decision.
  2. You can also use the service independently for data storage and data sharing. In this case, you will need to make a separate contract and there will be fees involved.
For buying the service, you would need to contact us via our Servicedesk.
