Q: Can I immediately remove a device from the network with iotroam?
A: Not immediately. There are quarantine solutions for that. However, a device can be removed in iotroam, which means it will no longer be accepted upon re-authentication. A device is automatically removed from iotroam 3 months after its expiry date and if the device has not been renewed.
Q: Devices connected to iotroam cannot communicate with each other (for example SSH or HTTP). Why not?
A: iotroam is for authentication to the iotroam network, so may a device connect to the network or not. What is allowed on the network is based on the institutions security policy and network design. Please contact your IT department if you have questions about this.
Q: Does iotroam work even if I have MAC randomization is turned on?
A: No. In the wifi settings of the device, MAC randomization must be turned off for the SSID iotroam.
Q: How can I find the hardware MAC address of a Meta Quest 3 for registration in iotroam?
A: Follow these steps:
Try to connect the Quest 3 to the network iotroam, without entering a password. This connection will fail.
In wifi settings in the Quest 3, open the advanced settings of the network iotroam and there change 'Use randomized MAC' to 'Use device MAC'. After that change, you can immediately see the hardware (device) MAC address. You can write this down and use it to register the Quest 3 in the iotroam portal. Write down the password given in the iotroam portal.
Again open the wifi settings in the Quest 3 and select the network iotroam. Now enter the password from the iotroam portal and click connect. Now the connection will be established.
