There are two types of accounts. Which one you should use depends on whether you need a SURFdrive profile for yourself or you need to work together within SURFdrive with someone who is using the service.

Personal account:
The first step is to create an account. Educational and research institutions purchase SURFdrive and manage user access. If your institution purchases SURFdrive and also grants you access, you can easily log in to SURFdrive via SURFconext. So please contact the IT Helpdesk of your institution for more information.

You can access your data with your own institutional account. You can access SURFdrive from all common computers, tablets and smartphones based on Windows, Linux, OS X, iOS and Android.

Guest account:
Do you want to collaborate with someone from outside of your institution who does not have a SURFdrive account?
If your institution permits this you may invite them to create an account as a guest. This can be done using the SURFdrive Dashboard by using the invite button under the Users tab.  If the invite button is not visible then you do not have permission to invite users. You can contact your institute's helpdesk to see if they can invite the user for you or activate this feature for your account. Your collaboration partner can then log in to SURFdrive via the eduID provider

Alternatively you can receive shares via public links.
