Log in using your institute credentials (via SRAM)

Windows workspaces created after 15 May 2025 can be accessed just like the Research Cloud portal, using the institute or EduID credentials.

This approach uses the Myrtille technology.

Log in using RDP

If you prefer or need to connect via Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), that’s still supported. First, check whether your machine has an RDP client installed. Below are the clients we recommend and have tested for each operating system:

Operating SystemRDP Client App
WindowsMicrosoft Remote Desktop (or on newer systems, it is called 'Windows App'
MacOSWindows App
LinuxRemmina
  1. Create a new connection in your local RDP client
    • Use the workspace’s IP address as the host.

      • You can find this in the workspace details section of the Research Cloud portal.

    • Use your Research Cloud internal username.
      • This is listed under the Profile tab in the Research Cloud portal.
    • Leave the password field blank.
      • If your RDP client insists on a password, enter any random value.
    • If prompted to store credentials in your keychain, choose “No” or “Deny”.
    • In Remmina, you will need to set the RDP Security Protocol to 'Security Protocol negotiation' in the Advanced settings tab
  2. Connect to the workspace

    • Once the connection is established, you’ll see the Windows login screen.

  3. Select the login method

    • Click the login option at the bottom left of the screen.
    • Depending on your workspace configuration, you’ll see one of two login methods:
      • QR code login:

        • Scan the QR code using your smartphone.

        • Follow the steps shown to authenticate via SRAM.

      • TOTP login:
