Introduction

Research Drive is a cloud-based sync and share service with which you can store, share and collaborate on Research Data.  This service enables you to easily share your data with other Research Drive users, even at other institutions or in other countries. It is also possible to share folders and files. Moreover, you can create user groups and authorise the group members to have partial or full access to your data. Research Drives uses the ownCloud software. For this software there are not only mobile clients available for Android and iOS but also desktop clients for Mac OSX, MS Windows and Linux. Using the desktop client you can synchronise your data between your computer and ResearchDrive.

By logging on to Research Drive, you become a User and agree to the terms and conditions below. 

Rules of use Research Drive

The User shall refrain from unauthorised use. This is understood to mean:

  • Using credentials from a third party to log on to Research Drive
  • User is not permitted to use the System for other purposes than the project was granted for or as agreed on in the Contract. Moreover, User is not permitted to use the System for any purpose that violates Dutch laws or other applicable international laws and regulations.
  • User is not permitted to attempt to try to access or use parts of the System, programs and/or files that do not belong to the User or to which the User has not been granted access.

Rules for offering Research Drive

SURF will ensure that Research Drive is available, but may (temporarily) decommission or restrict its use to the extent necessary for the necessary maintenance or for adjustments and/or improvements to Research Drive to be carried out by SURF without prior notice. SURF will not be liable for any damage resulting from the (temporary) unavailability of Research Drive. 

Personal data and privacy

SURF processes Personal Data of the Users. SURF processes this Personal Data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation and other relevant legislation and regulations. For more information on the processing of this Personal Data, please refer to the privacy statement () . SURF passes on Personal Data to, among others, (SRAM Collaborations of) organisation. Processing of that information by a Collaboration as well as deciding to what Research Services the Collaboration passess Personal Data of Collaboration members is the responsibility of the Institution that created the Collaboration.

Intellectual property rights

The external storage application allows you to mount external storage services. This allows you to share data residing on external storage with a user who does not have access to that storage. For more information on how to couple an external storage, see the video in the documentation pages.
