OwnCloud Desktop Client Bug
A bug was introduced in version 5.0 of the OwnCloud Desktop client for Windows that results in files being moved to the trashbin if they were not synched locally when a user disables the virtual file system on a synced folder. As a precautionary measure we have blocked all affected versions of the OwnCloud client from connecting to Research Drive. These are versions 5.0 and version 5.1.0. This means that users who are using either of these versions will have to update their client to the most recent version to sync their data. We recommend that all users who were running either of these versions that at some point disabled VFS on their folders to check their trashbin in order to restore their files.
Who is affected?
People using the OwnCloud Desktop Client versions 5.0 or 5.1.0 for Windows who initially synchronised a folder using VFS and later disabled this. To check what version of OwnCloud you are using you can open the client, navigate to settings, and at the bottom open the “about” section.
What can users do?
Upgrade to the latest version of the OwnCloud Desktop Client either by downloading it here https://download.owncloud.com/desktop/ownCloud/stable/latest/ or via the client itself https://doc.owncloud.com/desktop/next/automatic_updater.html#basic-workflow
Users who have been affected should be able to find their files back in the trashbin.
