Within Research Drive, users are able to collaborate on Office documents with use of Collabora.
It's possible to work together on documents, spreadsheets and presentations.
The save button within only stores a temporary version of a document in the environment and not as a document version on Research Drive.
To save a document version on Research Drive, you must close the document completely by leaving the editor.
Zotero reference manager
It is possible to add the reference and citations manager Zotero to your Collabora online editor. To check if this option is enabled for your institute, navigate to Settings → Additional. If it is not yet enabled you will see:
If you would like to use this option, you can contact your own helpdesk and request if this can be turned on for your your Research Drive instance. If the Research Drive admins of your institute agree, they can send in a ticket at our service desk.
Requests from Research Drive admins only
Only requests coming from Research Driv admins of your institute will be handled, as this plugin will be enabled for the entire institute.
Once the plugin is enabled, you can follow the steps from the panel below to be able to use Zotero in your Collabora environment.
Once Zotero is enabled for your institute, follow these steps to set this up for your Collabora online environment:
- Login to the Zotero online web browser: https://www.zotero.org/user/login/
- Create a new private API key in the Zotero online web browser. Navigate to Home --> Settings --> Security --> Applications. Then press create a new private key and select read/write at "Default Group Permissions". This option is necessary to use Zotero in Collabora online. There are other settings you can set here, like "Allow third parties to access your library". Whether or not you enable this depends on your internal policy.
- Save the key and copy the key
- Then open Research Drive
- In Research Drive, click on your account in the top left corner, navigate to Settings --> Additional --> Paste your Zotero personal API key and press save:

This option will only appear once Research Drive admins have enabled the Zotero plugin for your Research Drive instance
Once the option is enabled and the key is added to Research Drive, users can add citations in Collabora online by navigating to References --> Add citation.
