When you start a workspace, you become a “workspace owner”. This role entitles you to perform certain actions to your workspace.

Pause a workspace

Pausing your workspace helps you save your budget. The configuration of your workspace and the current data on it are preserved.

That way, you do not have to spend time setting up your machine every time you start a workspace.

You can pause your workspace. Use the "Pause” option in the workspace actions.

The workspace will enter the state "pausing" and finally be in the state "paused".

Accounting while "paused"

While your workspace is paused, it will not consume any CPU or GPU credits.

If your wallet is based on an RCCS contract, storage of a paused workspace will still be charged.

Grant-based wallets are not charged for storage because grants allow for a fixed amount of storage. The billing is not time-based, there.

If a persistent storage volume is attached to the paused workspace, it will stay "in-use".

However, you can detach it and attach it to another workspace.

Please refer to the bottom of this page for details on attach/detach.

Resume a workspace

To start using your workspace again, click "Resume” in the workspace actions.

The workspace will enter the state "resuming”.

Once the workspace is back in the state "running", you can access it again.

The persistent storage will still be attached.

Consistency

In order to prevent unpredictable behaviour, make sure that no changes are made by any users after the "Pause” action has been clicked.

Make sure that any data processing is stopped and that no users are logged in before you pause your workspace.

Delete a workspace

When you are done working on your workspace, you can delete it. Once a workspace is deleted, it cannot be recovered.

An external storage volume will continue to exist and contain your data. It can be reused with another workspace.

Reboot a workspace

The reboot button performs the pause and resume actions consecutively.

This can be helpful after system updates or configuration changes, or when you need to restart the processes running on your workspace.

Claim ownership

You will see this action if you are not an owner of a workspace and you are a member of the “src_ws_admin” group in your collaboration on SRAM.

The membership of the “src_ws_admin” group entitles you to perform actions on others’ workspaces.

You can also claim to be a new owner of a workspace.

This can become useful when the previous workspace owner has left a research group or decided not to be involved in the project.

You can only claim a workspace if you possess the same wallet as the one currently mentioned in the workspace details

Support

If you need support with your workspace, you can click “Support” in the workspace actions.

In a pop-up window, you can type a message to the Service Desk describing what has gone wrong with your workspace.

This Service Desk ticket will include the necessary details about your workspace, and an advisor on duty will be able to trace your workspace back.

Download detailed logs

This button allows you to download a log file that contains information about the deployment of your workspace.

If your workspace went to the state “failed”, it is worth exploring the logs to see at what step something went wrong.
