We will update the Data Archive file management system to a new software stack. This is done to enhance reliability, scalability and to keep the system up to date.
The migration will happen in the week of May 12th and the Archive will be unavailable between May 12th and 16th. As with every planned maintenance, we will send reminders at regular intervals. The data stored on the Archive will be safe during the migration, as this update only involves the software layer.
As a consequence of this migration, our suite of command-line tools to interact with the Data Archive will change - specifically the "DMF commands". On this page, we provide documentation on the new commands. More specific instructions on how to migrate existing scripts to the new suite can be found here.
If you rely heavily on these commands for your workflows, we kindly ask you to plan adequate time to inspect the new commands and adjust your scripts. We will provide details on how to access a test environment that has been prepared specifically to test the new tools.
In short, this is a timeline of the expected changes:
- Testing Period: March 7th - May 9th
- Test environment address: archivetest.surf.nl
- your existing credentials will work
- Migration to the new stack and Archive Downtime: May 12th – 16th
- DMF Commands End-of-Life: May 9th
We advise to perform any last action on the Data Archive before May 9th.
We encourage you to share your feedback, particularly regarding dmftar functionality and any issues you encounter with the new commands. Please contact us through the service desk or reply to our email communications.
