Go to Manage. Then click on the Issuers group tab and select the issuer groep to which the new badge class will belong.
After you have clicked on the correct issuer group, you will see the following screen.
Click on the issuer to which the new badge class belongs and click on Add new badge class.
Once you have clicked on the Add new badge class button, you will be given a choice of 3
types:
• Microcredential
• Regular
• Extracurricular
When you click on create a form will appear with the fields you need to fill in for that type.
You can also choose to make a copy of an existing badge class.
To do this, click on the existing badge class link.
In this overview you can see the fields that you have to fill for each type of edubadge. It is indicated whether a field should be filled in mandatory, optional or not applicable.
It is important that a third party understands what the edubadge encompasses and what knowledge and skills the recipient has. Examples can be found on https://www.edubadges.nl/catalog.
Name
Avoid abbreviations, make sure the name is recognizable for external parties as well.
Edubadge image
Image must be of the .png type, contain at least 90x90 pixels, be 300 dpi and be smaller than 256KB.
To increase the recognisability of the microcredentials issued as part of the pilot, we always add a recognizable visual label in the image. Find the image here: Handleiding metadata microcredentials.
Description
This is an open field to which institutions can add their own description of the education.

What knowledge and skills has the learner demonstrated?
Criteria
Describe here which criteria a learner meets to be eligible for the edubadge.
Language of instruction
Here you indicate the language in which the education was given.
Study load in ECTS or hours
Here you can indicate the number of credits or hours.
Indicative EQF level
Here you give an indication of the EQF level.
Form of participation
Here you can select 1 or more of the following options:
• Blended
• Online
• On-site
• Work experience
Programme identifiers
If an edubadge is linked to a study programme, you can indicate the
programme code here. For a regular edubadge, this field is mandatory.
Type of assessment
Here you can select 1 or more of the following options:
• (Written) Exam
• Behavioural assessment
• Development report/reference report
• Personalized type of assessment
• Portfolio / portfolio assessment
• Presentation/ oral exam
• Professional product
• Report/paper
Was the assessment supervised?
When this option is activated, the edubadge will indicate that the
assessment has been supervised.
Was the student’s identity verified?
When this option is activated, the edubadge will indicate that the
identity of the learner has been verified during the assessment.
If you choose the type of microcredential, the quality framework of MBO or HBO will be shown in quality assurance.
With the microcredential, you cannot edit or delete the quality framework shown.
For the other types of edubadges, you can optionally add a quality framework. For example, the quality framework of the institution or of a
national or international partnership.
You can add 1 or more related educational frameworks to the badge class of all types of edubadges.
Think, for example, of ESCO.
Do you want to allow awards directly?
With this option, you can indicate whether the edubadges can be awarded via direct award.
Proof (URL) required upon issuance?
When this option is activated, it is mandatory to provide proof when issuing via a URL.
Personal message required at issue
When this option is activated, it is mandatory to include a personal
message when handing it out.
Do you want to allow applications yourself?
With this option, you indicate whether the edubadges can be requested by learners themselves.

When this option is activated, it is mandatory to provide proof when applying via a URL.
Personal message required at issue
When this option is activated, it is mandatory to provide a personal message when applying.
Default expiration setting
This option allows you to indicate whether an edubadge expires and, if so, when.
Internal Tags
With this option you can add 1 or more tags. The tags are only visible within the issuer portal.
Stackable
This allows you to indicate whether an edubadge is part of a serie.
Grade/resultachieved
When this option is activated, a grade or result must be entered when a direct award is issued.
With the extra-curricular edubadges, there are 2 additional options for self enrollment.
Award to non-validated account allowed?
If this option is chosen, learners who do not have a linked eduID can also apply for an edubadge.
Award allowed institutions
Here you can select the institutions for which the learners can also request the edubadges. The learner must then have his/her eduID linked
to the selected institutions.
Preview badge class
With this button you can see what the badge class will look like based on the information entered.
Save as draft
This button allows you to save the badge class without it being visible in the catalog.
Publish
This saves the entered data and makes the badge class visible in the catalog and ready to be issued.
You can copy existing badge classes from the catalog. This also applies to badge classes from other institutions.
Click the Catalog tab at the top of the screen. Then click the badge class you want to copy. You will then see the following screen.
Then click Copy badge class.
Next, you can fill in the badge class metadata.
It's not necessary to give the badge class a completely new name.
It's therefore possible to have multiple badge classes with the same name. You can distinguish between them by looking at the date the badge class was published.
