The Settings section of the Research Drive Dashboard is only visible to Dashboard Admins. It can be found at the bottom left of the dashboard, under your username.

 

Changes made within the Settings app will affect the entire Research Drive Instance so please adjust settings carefully. If you are unsure why a particular setting was changed you can see the log of changes within the Transactions pane of the dashboard.

The Settings section is made up of 5 sub-sections:

Helpdesk mail

The email address for the helpdesk of your organisation. Used in mail communication to end users and displayed in the Help App under Support. 

Helpdesk URLThe URL for the helpdesk of your organisation. Displayed in the Help App under Support
Reporting mail

The email address to send the reporting mail to. This mail contains information on MFA status and usage.
Note, In case of multiple mail address, they should be split on a semicolon.

Auto-provisioningAllow anyone with a valid SURFconext login to automatically get an account on Research Drive
Auto-provisioning IdP domainsAccount provisioning is only permitted when the accounts eduPersonPrincipalName matched one for these IdP domains.
Wiki URLA custom wiki address, which will be added in the footer of the mailing to users and will be shown in the Research Drive Help section.
This can be useful for example, to publish your Helpdesk information, your Research Drive policies and additional support wiki.
Privacy URL

Reference to a privacy url of your organisation. Not mandatory, but will be displayed in several places within the environment.

The admins section of the settings app is for managing dashboard admins. Here you can add and remove dashboard admins.

Set minimum password requirements for user accounts and public links (does not affect SURFconext/eduID authentication)

Disabling this setting will block all currently active public links. If re-enabled, all non-expired public links will become accessible again.

Default expiration date on public links

When enabled, newly created public links will be pre-filled with an expiration date.
The expiration date is automatically set to N days in the future, as defined below.

Effect:

  • Users can still change or remove the expiration date when creating the share.

Enforce expire date on public links

When enabled, all public links must have an expiration date.

Effect:

  • The expiration date is automatically set to N days in the future, as defined below.

  • The user cannot remove the expiration date option
  • The user can set the expiration date shorter than the default date.
Default expiration after N days

Sets the number of days (N) used to calculate the expiration date for public links.

Effect:

  • The expiration date will be set to today + N days.

  • This value is used by:

    • Default expiration date on federated shares

    • Enforce expiration date on federated shares



Default expiration date on local shares

Default permissions (user and group shares)

Default permissions on a new share (these can be changed during or after share creation). If no box is filled in the share is read only. Each box adds one kind of functionality to the read only settings.

This does not affect the Project Folder Owner, who always gets full permissions on their project, nor does it affect existing shares. But it sets the default permissions for any new shares that are created.
